The Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TNSACS or TANSACS) is a Government of Tamil Nadu organisation that was formed to spread awareness about AIDS, to care for AIDS patients and prevent their maltreatment in society. It seeks to ensure that there are no new HIV infections in the state of Tamil Nadu while providing existing AIDS patients with quality medical care.[2]
In 1993, the State AIDS project cell was established in Tamil Nadu, which initially functioned under the aegis of the Director of Medical Education at Chennai. On 11 May 1994, the cell was reformed into the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (abbreviated as TNSACS or TANSACS) with the Secretary for the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu as its President.[3][4]
TANSACS implements its objectives through programmes designed to spread awareness of the disease
